There is a saying, "April showers bring May flowers." And the flowers are in abundance at 203 Derby Street, the location of Thumbs Up Greenhouse, our business of the month for May.

The business was originally started in the early 1990's by Mary Best and Shari Lueking. They kept the business open until 2004, when it was taken over by Jennifer Luther, owner of Prairie Petals.

The greenhouse carries starter plants for the vegetable garden, hanging baskets, patio baskets, memorial planters, gift items in the way of yard decorations, and offer gift certificates. One of the services provided is custom planting, even for those customers who supply their own containers. Some of the types of plants you will find there include variegated ivy, different kinds of coleus, violas, geraniums, gerbera daisies, verbena, petunias, mums, and potted hibiscus. Examples of their work have been enjoyed by numerous people who have been fortunate enough to see the hanging baskets in downtown Oxford.

Their grand opening, held on April 25, was a great success. The ladies working in the greenhouse never have a lack of things to do, and they can get very busy. Their hours are 9-12 and 3:30-6:30 Monday through Friday, and 9-6 on Saturday. They are only open for 2 months out of the year, so if you are planning on getting your plants from Thumbs Up, be sure to get there soon!
