For those small business owners out there who are thinking about relocating your business, here is a success story from Oxford. Our business of the Month for July is the Oxford Locker.
In September 1999, Carl Kramer moved his family here and took over the Oxford Locker, formerly owned by Cappy and Sue Pinkerton. Since then he has handled all kinds of meats, including pork, beef, sausage, deli meats, seafood, and deer. The business gets really busy during hunting season, when all production shuts down for 1 month, just for deer processing. Carl states this business can get very busy, and employs 8 full time positions. There are plans for future retail expansion, pending construction.
The business has a online site to handle customer service issues, such as a price listings, and cutting forms for pork and beef. This can be accessed on the Oxford website through the business listing page.
When asked what advice he would give to younger people thinking of going into this line of business, he had a few thoughts. A business management degree is essential, but to go into this type of business, you have to be willing to work very hard, and it's easier to find an existing business for sale rather than starting a new locker.
Congratulations Carl, on your success, and we hope to see many more good things in the future from the Oxford Locker. |
